Cordyceps Extract Cordycepin
Cordyceps sinensis is packed full of nutritional goodness including vitamin B1, C, nucleic acid, amino acids, polysaccharides, beta-glucans and trace elements. Modern research suggests that cordyceps may also help to support the healthy functioning of the lungs and kidneys, promote vitality and strengthen the immune system.
What is Cordyceps & Cordycepin?
Cordyceps is a fungus that lives on certain caterpillars in the high mountain regions of China. Natural cordyceps is hard to get and may be expensive. Most supplements are made with cordyceps grown in a laboratory. Supplements and products containing Cordyceps extract have become increasingly popular due to their many purported health benefits.
Cordycepin is one of the active ingredients from the Codyceps sinensis (Berk.) sacc.
A purine nucleoside antimetabolite and antibiotic isolated from the fungus Cordyceps militaris with potential antineoplastic activity. Cordycepin is an adenosine analogue, which is readily phosphorylated to its mono-, di-, and triphosphate intracellularly. Triphosphate cordycepin can be incorporated into RNA, and inhibits transcription elongation and RNA synthesis due to the absence of a hydroxyl moiety at the 3' position. Because it can be converted to an inactive metabolite by adenosine deaminase, this agent must be administered with an adenosine deaminase inhibitor in order to be effective.
